Hurt by the world, she would rather see herself as separate from it. She wants to release herself from its chains. But there’s a dilemma. Which chains were placed on her by the world, and which did she lock herself? Does she hold the key within?”
As a young girl, I didn’t spend much time in the real world. It felt dull, grey, full of rules, and too unsafe to exist in fully. It was too heavy, too fake, too manipulative for me to breathe. So I learned to leave.
In reality, I’m in my bedroom. But in my world, I’m in my castle. A vast field stretches around it, with hills and dark forests. The moon glows pinkish purple, like the ’80s, and the synths are loud in the distance. Animals roam freely, wild and uncaged. Inside, there are long corridors, stone walls, golden frames, dresses, corsets, long curls. Vampires, werewolves, witches and fairies.
